Requirements
486
or later processor
running Windows 98 or later. 1.5 MB of hard drive space, and
640K
of memory.
A Type A (v1.1 or later) USB port is required for the USB interface.
Overview
The ESC programmer uses a Prolific
USB controller interface that shows up under
Windows as a COM port. You will need to
determine which COM port that Windows has chosen
for the USB interface. To do this,
right-click on your "My Computer" icon and select
PROPERTIES. Now, select the HARDWARE tab.
Click the DEVICE MANAGER button. Scroll down
the list of devices until you see "Ports (COM &
LPT)". Look for "Prolific-to-Serial Comm
Port (COMxx)". Where, 'xx' is the COM port.
This is the COM port you will select when using
the ESC programming software.
IT IS NECESSARY TO
INSTALL THE PROLIFIC USB DRIVER BEFORE CONNECTING THE ESC PROGRAMMING
HARDWARE!
Installing
the USB driver
DO NOT PLUG IN THE ESC PROGRAMMING UNIT INTO YOUR PC BEFORE
THE USB DRIVER SOFTWARE HAS BEEN INSTALLED!
Download the USB installer software
(above). Hint:
hold the SHIFT key
while clicking the link or using the right mouse button when clicking
the link and save the file to your desktop so that it is easy to find.
Open the downloaded zip file, and run the installer
(PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v1.5.0.exe) by double-clicking on its icon.
Follow
the installer
instructions to install the software on your computer. Once
it
has been installed, you can delete the downloaded file.
Installing
the USB hardware
To
install the USB
hardware, simply plug the device into the USB port on your computer. You
may need a servo extension to extend the length of
the cable to reach your ESC connnection.
Using the ESC
programming software
Connect a motor and battery to the ESC. Plug
in the receiver signal line from the ESC into the
USB hardware.
Connect the USB hardware to your computer and run
the ESC_Programmer.exe file by double-clicking on
its icon. Now, select the COM port for your
device from the list of available COM ports.
See above to determine which COM port the USB
hardware is.
Once the COM port has been selected, click on the
Query ESC button. You will hear a tone from
the motor. If you not hear a tone, try it
again. If you still do not hear a tone you
may have the wrong COM port selected.
Double-check the COM port.
Once you hear the tone you know that the ESC is
connected and ready to be set. Adjust all of
the settings how you want them and then click on
the "Send ESC Settings" button. You will
hear a series of "beeps", followed by one long
tone. The ESC has been programmed. You
can now disconnect the power, motor, and receiver
line from the ESC. It is ready to use.
