Use an XPS Futaba transmitter module with a Taranis - flyingw - 07-18-2025

Jim,

Is there any software compatibility or functional reason that you should not use an XPS Futaba transmitter module with a Taranis?

I understand that one would have to cable the GND, Vbatt and PPM signals correctly, adapt the physical mounting, and set the Taranis to output PPM to the external bay.

Thanks,

Paul

p.s.  Thank you to user "rlocke" for this clever idea

The Futaba module has inverted polarity from JR. So, it is possible that it won't work at all - however at some point there was a changed to the firmware to make all modules detect the polarity and adjust it automatically. So, if the firmware is new enough (v3.x) then it should work.

a friend did this for me yesterday and it works great. three solder joints and hot glue. the module was very old. i can ask him to reply in this thread if you wish.

Ron,

I saw the post by Jurez about integrating the XPS Futaba transmitter module with the Taranis. If it works, then it must be ok. The only problem noted by Jim Drew was the possibility of having a mismatch in polarity between the Futaba and JR transmitter modules. However, it appears that that didn't happen.

Well done,

Paul

Here it is Ron,

I just tested the arrangement and it works.  I exercised channels 1 through 8 and they all worked.

I tested with all eight channels and the arrangement works. I updated the previous post.

All of the modules support up to 16 PPM channels.
