The Future - flyingw - 10-16-2026

Jim Drew,

I hope you and your family are well.

I am just checking in.  I have since migrated about half of my RC airplanes to ELRS transmitters and receivers and have had good success.  I still use XPS transmitter modules and receivers for my better models.

I reckon it might be profitable to produce ELRS-compatible receivers or even X10 devices.

If not, then thank you for twenty years of reliable RC flying with your XPS products. Enjoy your family; that’s what matters most.

Paul

RE: The Future - XPS - 10-16-2026

Hey Paul,

I have no plans to make receivers for other systems. I won't compromise the reliability we have had.

I am working to release the various items that now have expired from the sale of the UAV division, so things like the xGyro that has INS built in can finally be released to the commercial (hobby) market. That was the single item that caused XPS to no longer be a hobby related company. That gyro has the ability to fly an aircraft from point A to point B (a long ways, which I still can't disclose) without the aide of GPS or any other RF guidance method. The thing that interests me the most though is the heading hold capability. I have a feature that I call "Axis Lock", which is just that - you point the aircraft at some direction and that is where it stays no matter what inputs you give the aircraft. You could do a pass down your runway and at the start of the pass enable the Axis Lock and then you could wiggle the sticks, do rolls at any speed, etc. and the heading and altitude never change. The tail might be waggling and the ailerons deflecting to rotate the body, but the course does not deviate. Makes doing 8 point rolls super easy by just banging on the ailerons.

In the last few months I have been able to re-package the xGyro with newer technology components to make it smaller. The entire thing now fits on your thumbnail. It is so sensitive (and fast - 5K correction per second) that there is a filter to remove vibrations passed through the 3 pin cable. You can also program (learn) the vibration dampening in real time based on stick inputs and throttle position. Being an INS based device it is sensitive to even tiny amounts of wind so it easily corrects for that. This tech now is small enough to use with indoor foamies to make you look like a master 3D pilot.

I have a lot of new flight controllers including a new even smaller X10, and these all have the interface for the xGyro. At the moment I am doing work in another industry, but I do plan to get back to doing some more testing (now that it is cool again here) and see how much interest there is at the hobby level.
