New transmitter module
#1
Hello Jim and others at Xtreme Power Systems.  I hope you all and your families are well.

Several XPS users recently tested the XPS-J1 transmitter module with new RadioMaster transmitters and EdgeTx, including the TX16S and TX15.  Both have internal ELRS RF systems, and both also have external JR-type module bays.

With the latest EdgeTx release v2.12.1 and the new versions of RadioMaster transmitter hardware, the XJT-D16 output into the external bay has likely changed enough to break the interface to the XPS-J1 module. Fortunately, PPM still works as an input to the XPS-J1 with these transmitters.

It would be nice for all remaining XPS users if the XPS-J1, EdgeTx 2.12.1, and the new transmitters could be made compatible.

As an alternative to making accommodations in the XPS-J1 to work with the new implementation of XJT-D16, how about instead a new transmitter module that accepts the crossfire (CRSF) protocol as an input.  I reckon that CRSF will be supported long after XJT-D16.

If the XJT-D16 option no longer works then they have broken something in the protocol. The XPS module follows the protocol specifications perfectly. The CRSF protocol uses a baud rate that is too high for the XPS RF modules. Keep in mind that we celebrate 20 years of selling these modules this year. So, the XtremeLink hardware is old compared to modern devices.

Yeah, I get it about the newer implementation of XJT-D16.

I also understand about the technology marching on.  Where did these 20 years go?  Thank you for 20 years of RC flying where I never had to worry about the control link.

At least I can still use my trusty Taranis transmitter and XPS-J1 module to fly my planes equipped with XPS Nano and RFU receivers (and X10s).  Any new airplanes I will use ELRS.  However, if I have a new RC project that involves something scratch built or is really important to me, I will fly it with XtremeLink.

Yeah, crazy that it has been that long. I didn't realize that amount of time until I had to renew trademarks.
