Currently I am using an XPS JR module in a RadioMaster Tx16s with 16+ nano receivers. Before this I was using the Futaba module in my 9c radio. I have used the RM setup for the last three seasons. Last season I crashed my funjet due to loose of control. Unable to determine the cause I replaced the nano Rx and gyro and moved on. I had no issues till about two weeks ago, I tried to fly my funjet on a hot ~85-degree day and during my preflight I noticed the servos movement was choppy and lagged the stick movement. I had several flights before this on other models. I assumed it was either the nano receiver or possibly the gyro in the plane. I could not reproduce the issue on the bench, so again I replaced both the rx and gyro (installed another nano rx) and had no issues for several flights since.

This past weekend I was out (again a hot 85 degree day) and tried to fly 71” Slick about mid day after 3 previous flights. I experienced the same laggy choppy servo movements. This time I immediately switched to the funjet and had the same issue making me think its an issue with the XPS module. I wish I had then immediately switched to my small heli with a Spektrum rx (to rule out the radio) but this didn’t occur to me. I later (same day) flew the heli for several flights and had no issue. Both sessions were hot sunny days and I sometimes leave the radio on while changing packs. Till I resolve this issue I don’t feel confident in using my XPS equipment. Do these symptoms sound familiar? Could this be a heat issue or just a failing module? I see the JR modules are out of stock. What are my options? Thanks for any assistance.

Jim,

What is the safe voltage range for the XPS-J1 module?

The reason I am asking is because I have the XPS-J1 installed in a Taranis transmitter body. Most of the models in that Taranis use the XJT-D16 protocol, but two of them are configured to send SBUS out (for DragonLink) through the external module bay into which the XPS-J1 is currently installed. The Taranis indicates that the voltage for its SBUS output is at the battery voltage, around eight volts.

If I were to accidentally change to a model that uses SBUS while the XPS-J1 is still installed, would the SBUS signal and voltage levels damage the XPS-J1?

Thank you,
When I use the XDP to review the settings on my two XPS-J1 transmitter modules, I get this error message:
Note that the radio control function works perfectly, and I did not reset the module to defaults as the message says.

Is it just an "out of date" situation, or is there something really wrong and I need to reset to default and program again?
Thanks,

Sending this post to you first as a starter, wan't to find out whether it is me stuffing up or some changes made in Edge.
Can go back to 2.7 but rather not.

Have been sucessfully binding and flying an RM TX16S with Edge 2.7 and XPS mode across 6 different nanos.
One of my models needs 12 ch, so XPS is the best answer.
Using prior versions of Edge and must confess I didn't range test after upgrading to 2.7 but all seemed good.

Then upgraded to 2.8 nightly 2133d42b and can no longer bind as XPS mode no longer functions. Seems that comms fail to Ext module.

Reverted to PPM 8 Ch in Tx changed JR module to PPM and successfully bound after resetting the nano, but the range test fails at 45 feet with the button pushed in. I have tried different nano's and different JR modules.
Flew an old model to test and have a video of intermittent loss of control, but got the model down.

Are there any changes you are aware of, or any suggestions before I go hunting?

Regards for 2023, may it be a better year.

Firstly, no problems with XPS 2.4 module with any Rx.
Or a well known European dedicated 2.4 brand flying concurrently.

Maybe we can get a view from your knowledge.

This is out of the ballpark, but some are having trouble with loss of signal to Rx on Tx16S internal configuration.
Total loss of control and spiral in from level flight. Failsafe set on one occasion only, so doesn't seem a factor.
Doubtful that the Tx is a problem, common to 3 different Tx's.
Just who is using our R/C bandwidth? Everything from toys to licensed UAV.
Increasing 2.4 activity in a rural zone, farming, water control, etc, etc.

Possible causes, band width, batteries.

1. Batteries are a well known make, A123 type with internal charge control, not dual, load test OK after crash.
2. Many flights successful prior to crashes.
3. Postulated that 2.4 is becoming overused, and users are running out of band wriggle room.

So, do you have any views on producing dual band 2.4/9 mHz or just 9 mHz to improve the odds.
Or is this dual band idea just a blind alley, down which we don't need to go?
I need 10ch to an X10/16, but as I understand only 9ch can be output from the current JR module using PPM9.
10ch can be output using SPCM, but the according to the doco the module can not handle the modulation.
Was ever an upgrade done to enable this?
Also does the RFU accept SPCM?
Assumed that Nano's won't.
Rather think that this may be the end of the road for my JR Tx, but modules work well in Taranis/Radiomaster.
So my question is could install your JR-11X internal module into the XPS-J1 case upgrade w/antenna connector and use that module in the XG11-MV to use it with a RFU or Nano when the XG11MV uses DSM mode?

For many years I have been using XPS receivers with XPS modules in Multiplex 3030 and 4000 series without a problem. To back up these ageing radios I purchased a Radiomaster Max edition so I could use an XPS JR module and continue to use my XPS gear if these old radios ever failed. However,I am having trouble binding the modules to the receivers. One of the modules I purchased when the new batch became available recently and the other two came from an aeromodler in South Africa.(Iam not sure which is whitch now as I cant tell them apart) I have been able to bind one 10 chanel receiver to the radio but it wont always hold the bind when I turn it off, also the first chanel produces a third elevator chanel instead of an aileron. If I shift the chanels from 8 or 10 to chanels 2 to 9 I can sometimes get 8 working chanels.I have purchased the XPS gear over many years with only one return for upgrade quite some years ago, also I have not yet tried to bind any of the diversity receivers .Iam using the ppm setting on the Radiomaster with preset settings on delay and frame. I have not downloaded any new software to the radio, its only one week old. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jim,

I was thinking about the latency in my RC systems.

I believe that my Futaba 9C transmitter delivers a new set of channel positions by way of PPM to the XPS transmitter module every 22,5 millisecinds.

Using the XJT-D16 protocol the Taranis delivers a new set of channel positions to the XPS JR-type module every 18 milliseconds.

This means I gain about 4.5 milliseconds using XJT-D16.

If I happened to be using all 16 channels I would be about twice as fast with XJT-D16 than I would be with PPM.

Is that correct?

Thanks,
