Flying Site
The Desert Hawks RC flying site has been in use for more than 30 years. The
flying site consisted of two runways, overlapping each other in an ‘X’
configuration. In the fall of 2014, the club voted to remove both runways,
flatten the entire area, and put in a single new 750’x60’ runway. Our previous
runways had severe down hill slopes, and twists. The new runway has been
completed, but still needs some more work, which we hope to have done prior to
the event. The runway is 850’x60’, with a pilot staging/flying station area that is
280’x50’.
The runway is phase 1 of a multi-phase renovation. We currently have bathrooms
and water on site. We expect to replace the bathrooms in the next phase. Our
goal is to have a storage containers, a tower, a club house, and have power
brought in. Currently, power is only available by pilot supplied generators.
We have areas for motorhomes, RVs, and camp trailers. Trailers with airplanes
can be parked along back side of the staging area, giving you easy access for
loading/unloading. During non-busy times, we allow trailers to stay parked.
Our parking area for vehicles is large, and can hold hundreds of vehicles. Plenty
of room for spectator parking with easy in/out access.
We are building a world class RC flying facilty. Our facility will be available for
other clubs to hold AMA sanctioned events. Contact us for more details!
The renovation project has only been possible due to generous donations from
our club members. Please donate to our cause.
